Tales from the Vending Machine

Ruben Martinez was a suprising meet for me because (I didn't know it till the second or third day in San Diego) I'd been looking at his work years ago. He did an issue of Scud: Tales from the Vending Machine that I really enjoyed. Jim Mahfood who is also a friend did a couple of issues after that, but I had really wanted to do an issue from the series and by the time I had caught on it was over. The series just disappeared. Sux. Anyhow seeing him at the show getting down was a good treat. He's pretty quick, and I noticed in one of his posts that he says you have to be shape driven to come out with some interesing designs. Something like this I knew from before, you want to have a cool silhoutte to distinguish you main character. Think of Batman or Spawn- if you just saw their silhouttes you'd know who it was. That's the approach I take at least. Anyhow Ruben's now doing product development for various companies, and with so many artists designing characters- you gotta know this guy is busy. These are a couple of designs he did for THE BATMAN cartoon series. He's got the Creeper, Reaper and Azrael (one of my favorite characters). I hope you guys enjoy and don't worry I'll be posting my new stuff soon, week's almost over.
